Original 1920 German 25 Pfennig Notgeld issued by the city of Flensburg during the period of the Schleswig plebiscites following World War I.
The colorful front is marked “Notgeld der Stadt Flensburg” and prominently dated March 14, 1920, the date of the Zone II Schleswig plebiscite, when residents of the Flensburg area voted on whether the region would remain German or become part of Denmark.
The illustration shows crowds gathered around the Flensburg coat of arms, making this an especially interesting piece of German-Danish border history.
The reverse reads “Gutschein der Stadt Flensburg über fünfundzwanzig Pfennig” and is dated January 18, 1920.
