Original 1921 German 50 Pfennig Notgeld issued by the city of Arnstadt, Germany.
This colorful issue features the Arnstadt city eagle and a large 50 Pfennig denomination on one side. The illustrated reverse depicts a historical scene labeled:
“1640 – Plünderung Arnstadts durch die General Banér”
That translates approximately to:
“1640 – Plundering of Arnstadt by General Banér.”
The scene refers to the destruction and looting associated with the Thirty Years’ War, when forces under Swedish commander Johan Banér operated in central Germany.
This makes the note more historically interesting than a standard municipal Notgeld piece because it combines local currency with a specific 17th-century wartime event.
